UKZN PhD candidate in the School of Social Sciences, Mr Emanuel Matlala is an active researcher who has recently shared his findings at a number of conferences.

His presentation at the Records and Information Management conference held at the Southern Sun hotel in Sandton focused on best practices in records management, strategies for effective retention, compliance with data protection regulations, and digital preservation.

‘My presentation highlighted the importance of these practices for organisations in the digital age, as they are crucial to maintain efficient and compliant record-keeping systems,’ he said.

Matlala also participated in the Durban University of Technology’s Annual Learning Teaching and Imbizo 2023 conference, where he presented two co-authored papers. The paper on a scoping review of Undergraduate Research assessment practices: lessons from pre and during COVID-19 lockdowns explored the assessment of undergraduate research during the pandemic. The second presentation examined strategies for adaptive teaching and learning practices in contemporary learning settings in South African Higher Education Institutions.

Matlala co-authored a paper titled Prospects for, and Challenges of, Knowledge Sharing in the South African Public Sector: A Literature Review, which he presented at the Social Sciences International Research Conference.
