Physical Planning and Facilities Management Sport Day Extravaganza

UKZN Physical Planning and Facilities Management (PPFM) formally known as Campus Management Services recently held its annual Sports Day at the Howard College campus Gate 10 sports field.

The event was attended by PPFM staff from all five UKZN campuses to unwind and connect with each other. Employees were full of enthusiasm and excitement throughout the event.

Staff were grouped in team colours: blue, red, yellow and green. The sports games kicked-off with male soccer matches played at the V5 soccer field and ladies’ netball. Other games such as tug-of-war, egg and spoon race, and rope jump were also featured on the day.

Commenting on the event, Facilities Management Director, Jeremy Hurter, said the annual event was for colleagues to get together and have fun in the sun. ‘We don’t generally correspond other than through emails and it is nice to get together as different campuses.’

Sport event leader, Mr Eugene Sosibo, said the purpose of the event was for PPFM staff to engage in team building exercises, adding that this year’s game was different as the teams were represented in mixed colour codes as opposed to the previous year where it was campus vs campus.

Mr Senzo Khanyile, PMB campus Ground and Garden Manager, said, ‘This event is a small gesture from the management to say “thank you” to staff for their work and dedication to the department. It’s also a great opportunity to allow staff a break from their daily work routine to unwind and personally meet their mates from other campuses,’ he said.

Encouragement and laughter created a positive atmosphere for everyone. The event demonstrated the importance of work-life balance as it allowed staff to unwind and bond in fun activities.
